The Company
Quest Window Systems Inc (“Quest”) is a manufacturer of a window wall system designed for high-rise residential developments, based in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Quest services clients from all over North America, including major metropolises such as New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Toronto.
 
Purpose:  This position is responsible for the safety, quality, and productivity of the Glazing Department. The Glazing Senior Group Manager provides leadership and coaching to junior leaders on the Glazing Lines with respect to improving product quality and continuously improving processes. It is the responsibility of the Glazing Senior Group Manager to ensure up to date training of all members of the Glazing Team on the latest manufacturing techniques and product developments, while always prioritizing safety.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
 
  • Annually establish the mission statement for the Glazing Team in line with the mission statement of Quest Window systems and live the core covenants.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews of subordinates and update and maintain skills matrices.
  • Coordinate with other senior leaders, cross functionally, to ensure optimized risk management for project delivery.
  • Mentor current leaders and follow Quest Principles of Leadership
  • Plan employee resources to ensure there is no interruption in production.
  • Future proof teams through succession planning and upscale hiring.
  • Facilitate and assess the capabilities and training capacity of your leadership group.
  • Work directly with Preconstruction Project Managers, Field Managers, Quality and Product Teams to ensure high quality products and on time delivery.
  • Establish a thorough understanding of all business process maps and the current state in order to be able to suggest improvements to maximize operation efficiency.
  • Capacity and resource planning including demand and delivery management.
  • Identify risks to Plant Manager and scheduling.
  • Actively plan and control Glazing Production scheduling, understanding product complexity and delivery schedules
  • Facilitate daily meetings with your team to discuss output, capacity and problems.
  • Monitor production metrics and proactively respond to problems
  • Maintain high level of visibility with leaders and associates.
  • Use hands-on approach to communicate daily and involve employees in problem solving
  • Promote safety and ensure a safe work environment and safe employee work habits
  • Develop a high-performance team with high levels of employee engagement, morale, satisfaction, and performance 
  • Ensure the desired product quality levels are achieved through use of standard work and training requirements in operation, inspection techniques and use of tools/data
  • Support and implement new, customer-focused processes in accordance with lean principles and practices.  Provide training and coaching to improve standard work, work center organization (5S), and housekeeping
  • Actively provide change leadership as required
  • Support and foster an environment of continuous improvement by encouraging employees to challenge existing processes and implement solutions that enhance the overall effectiveness of the operation
  • Support employees in understanding company policies and practices
  • Maintain time and production records in ADP Workforce Now system
  • Identify process related problems and actively work with leaders and employees to determine and implement corrective action(s)
  • Communicate with other group managers and appropriate personnel regarding equipment, safety, work schedules, company policies and practices, performance improvement plans, etc.
  • Conduct regular audits/GEMBA walk and implement improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement events as assigned by department manager
  • Participate in the Corporate and Plant specific Quality Audit
  • Communicate with and listen to employees daily regarding team performance, strategic initiatives, policy changes, safety, quality, etc.
  • Help employees succeed through performance management
  • Provide coaching and performance communication to support development  
  • Perform related or other responsibilities as required or assigned
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Requires a bachelor's degree at minimum, additional Masters,  post graduate or accreditation is a plus.
  • Performs work independently.
  • Creates and assigns work for team
  • Considered a high-level specialist who regularly interacts and works with senior management.
  • Uses advanced techniques, theories, and processes to complete work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the field's concepts and principles.
  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes and has authority to make and implement changes.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions.
  • Can lead a larger team and can have indirect reports.
  • Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on workforce planning, departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.
